KT Wiz breaks out of four-game losing streak. A day with multiple ups and downs culminated with a priceless gift of victory on KT manager Lee Kang-cheol’s birthday and closer Kim Jae-yoon reaching 150 saves.
KT won 4-2 against the Kiwoom Heroes in the ‘2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League’ at Gocheok Sky Dome on Nov. 11. The win snapped a four-game losing streak and improved their season record to 35-2-41 (0.461 winning percentage), closing in on seventh-place Kiwoom (38-2-44) in the league.
KT was led by starter Wes Benjamin, who pitched 7⅔ innings, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts. Benjamin, who made his KBO debut last year, pitched the most innings (7⅓) and struck out the most batters (10) to improve to 9-3 on the season.
Park Young-hyun worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth, and closer Kim Jae-yoon pitched a clean inning to earn his 150th career save.
At the plate, Lee Ho-yeon hit an RBI single with runners on first and second in the top of the seventh inning. The next batter, Choi Jong-ho, followed with a two-run single. 메이저사이트주소
Coach Lee said, “All the players showed a strong will to end the losing streak. Benjamin pitched really well to set the stage for the win. Park Young-hyun and Kim Jae-yoon also did a good job in tight situations. Congratulations to Kim Jae-yoon on his 150th save,” he said after the win.
“The batting lineup showed great concentration against their ace. Lee Ho-yeon’s hit set the tone for the game, and Choi Seok-ho came through with a run-scoring hit to seal the win. We had a lot of fans cheering us on in the rainy weather, and it feels good to be able to deliver a victory.”
On the same day, Lee celebrated his 57th birthday. Before the game, the players celebrated his birthday in the locker room with a cake and gifts.
Pitcher Kim Jae-yoon sent a congratulatory message, saying, “Today (Nov. 11) was the last series of the first half with Lee’s birthday. I wanted to repay him with a win. I was able to focus more, and once again, congratulate him on his birthday.”
