Manchester United defeated Chelsea 4-1 in the 32nd round of the 2022-23 English Premier League (EPL) at Old Trafford in Manchester, England, at 4 a.m. ET on Saturday. With the win, United moved into third place in the league with 22 wins, six draws and nine losses (72 points), six points clear of fifth-place Liverpool (66 points) and headed to next season’s UEFA UCL regardless of the outcome of the remaining matches.

United took an early lead. Casemiro rattled the net in the sixth minute of the first half. It was a goal-fest. Anthony Martial added a second in first-half stoppage time to make it 2-0 at the break. The second half didn’t stop there. In the 27th minute of the second half, Bruno Fernandez converted a penalty kick (PK) that he earned himself. Marcus Rashford followed suit in the 33rd minute. Despite conceding a late goal, United held on for the 4-1 victory.

With the win, United leapfrogged into third place and clinched UEFA’s UCL. Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are now confirmed to play in the UEFA UCL in the 2023-24 season in the EPL. 메이저사이트

Fifth-placed Liverpool and sixth-placed Brighton have also qualified for the UEFA Europa League (UEL) regardless of the outcome of their final matches. The one remaining spot is in the UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL). Currently, seventh-place Aston Villa (58 points) is the favorite, with eighth-place Tottenham Hotspur (57 points) and ninth-place Brentford (56 points) also in the mix.

Liverpool will miss out for the first time in seven seasons. Liverpool missed the UEFA UCL in 2016-17 after finishing eighth in the league in 2015-16. However, the Reds have since qualified for the UEFA UCL in six consecutive seasons, reaching three finals and winning one. Liverpool even reached the final last season, challenging for the big prize.

Salah was disheartened by the failure to reach the UEFA UCL. He took to social media shortly after the game to say, “I’m completely devastated. There are no excuses. We had everything we needed to reach the UEFA UCL and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying for the UEFA UCL is the bare minimum. We are sorry. We have let our fans and ourselves down,” he said.
